Putting Scooters On The Road

We import the vast majority of our scooters direct from Italy, this is because we know that they are more than likely to be as original as possible, of course they are used and show their age, but are pretty much in tact. Scooters that are ready to ride away with TAX and MOT are marked as on the road, all others you should presume are non runners and will need varying amounts of work to be road worthy unless stated otherwise. As we have so many scooters in stock, we do not inspect each machine so cannot guarantee the cost of overhauling each individual machine. Instead if you chose a particular machine, we will always keep you informed of work in progress should we find any thing out of the ordinary that needs attention. These scooters are marked as not on the road, of course they can be prepared to your requirements.

When we prepare a scooter for on the road use, we carry out the following work:-

Parts Always Replaced
  • Strip Engine & Carb
  • Oil Seals
  • All Gaskets
  • Clutch
  • Points and Condensor
  • Spark Plug
  • Fuel line & In-line Filter
  • Tyres & Tubes
  • Light Bulbs

Overhauled and replaced where needed
  • Bearings
  • Chain & Guides
  • Crankshaft
  • Cylinder Rebore and Piston
  • Gearbox
  • Steering and Suspension
  • Brakes
  • Lighting
  • Any thing else needed
Scooters are prepared for UK MOT standards, which is quite strict and will cover most countries specification of road worthiness.

In general a non running scooter with the above work carried out will cost around £400 to £500 plus any extra work. This does include 12 months MOT, letter of authentication from the LCGB and UK registration, all you will require is a helmet and insurance and the correct license.

You are of course welcome to have replaced or overhauled any other parts such as trim, badges, seat covers, engine modifications / tuning at extra cost.

The main addition we always recommend is an electronic kit, which will be fitted free of labour charges if you chose this option.

You are of course welcome to buy the scooter "as is" so you can carry out the work yourself. Many people require a hobby to get away from the wife or husband!

Restorations
Sorry but we will not just "spray a scooter" to make it look pretty, we do not because of the following:-

  1. We are putting our name to the scooter.
  2. To paint a scooter properly it needs to be fully stripped (we mean fully!)
  3. The time involved to strip and rebuild a scooter properly is over 40 hours.
  4. If we are to strip a scooter and paint it, why put it back together on a budget, do it properly.
  5. If you paint a scooter, it does not look right to fit old trims, badges etc.
  6. Painting the parts you see, still leaves a horrible mess of the ones you only see when the panels come off!
